Repair Services
Katie Martz has been trained in instrument repair with a focus on bassoon from the Colorado Institute of Musical Instrument Technology. She has received instruction and completed 30 hours of lab training on proper disassembly techniques, corking of tenons, proper key fitting, padding, key corking, regulation/adjusting, and spring replacement, and she has received a certificate of completion for the Bassoon Fundamentals course.
Repairs and service rate: $60 per hour plus parts/supplies.


Clean, Oil, & Adjust
The Clean, Oil & Adjust is a common service that should be completed every 12 to 18 months depending on how much the instrument is being used.

Bassoons are inspected for damage and missing or defective parts.

Bassoons are completely disassembled.

Bent keys are assessed and repaired as needed.

All wooden joints (bell, long, boot, and wing) are cleaned and oiled.

Keys are cleaned and sanitized as needed.
-
Pads are examined and replaced as needed.
-
Corks, felts and other silencing materials are examined and replaced as needed.
-
Missing or defective parts will be replaced with when possible.
-
Bassoon is reassembled; moving parts are oiled and regulated to playing condition.
Complete Overhaul/Repad
A complete overhaul / repad should be completed every 8 to 10 years depending on how much the bassoon is used.

The bassoon is inspected for damage and missing or defective parts.

Bassoon is completely disassembled.

Bent keys are assessed and repaired as needed.

All wooden joints (bell, long, boot, and wing) are cleaned and oiled.

ALL pads, corks, felts and other silencing materials are removed.
-
Keys are cleaned with natural and environmentally safe products.
-
ALL pads are replaced with appropriate pads for the particular make and model of the instrument.
-
ALL corks, felts and other silencing materials are replaced.
-
Missing or defective parts will be replaced when possible.
-
Hand polishing is performed as needed.
-
Bassoon is reassembled; moving parts are oiled and regulated to a like new condition.

Tenon Re-Cork or Re-String
$30 first joint, $15 each additional
Bassoon tenons can be replaced with cotton string or cork, per request.
